Advion Roach Gel: How to Use the Pro Bait Correctly

The active ingredient is indoxacarb, a delayed-action toxicant the roach eats at the bait placement and carries back to the harborage. The delay is the feature: the roach returns home, dies among its peers, and other roaches, including nymphs that never visited your placement, are exposed through contact with feces and carcasses. One placement can cascade through a chunk of the population. That secondary kill is why a few grams of gel outperforms a whole can of spray on German cockroaches.

Think crevices near warmth, moisture, and food (pea-size dots or thin beads, many small placements over few large ones. Standard hits: hinge side of cabinet doors, the gap where the countertop meets the wall, under the sink around plumbing penetrations, behind the fridge near the compressor, the dishwasher kick panel, and inside cabinet corner seams. Roaches follow edges and cracks; a dot in the open floor is theater. Refresh placements the label interval or when they're eaten bare) cleaned-out bait is a good sign, not a failure.

Repellent sprays contaminate the area and drive roaches away from the exact placements you need them to feed on, the two products fight each other. If you gel-bait, retire the spray can indoors. The professional pattern pairs gel with an insect growth regulator and targeted crack-and-crevice work, not broadcast spraying. If you already fogged the kitchen, clean thoroughly and wait before placing gel, or place it in untreated zones.

It's labeled for them and it kills them, but understand the difference: German cockroaches live in your kitchen; palmetto bugs live outside and wander in. Gel placements indoors will pick off wanderers, but the population you're fighting is in the landscaping, mulch, sewers, and palm boots outside. Three usual causes. Bait aversion: German cockroach populations can develop aversion to a gel's food base over generations of exposure, rotating to a different quality gel brand or formulation between rounds prevents it. Reinfestation: cardboard boxes, grocery bags, and multifamily plumbing chases reseed kitchens constantly. Sanitation competition: gel competes with your crumbs, and a kitchen full of alternatives makes bait less interesting. If rounds of correct baiting still lose ground, especially in townhomes and condos sharing walls, that's a population needing professional-grade rotation and an IGR program.
