Golf course water hazards are especially productive Culex breeding environments: the water is warm, high in organic nitrogen from fertilizer runoff and organic decay, and has high-surface-area shallow margins ideal for Culex egg raft development. Because the golf course represents a large body of permanent breeding water that cannot be treated like a residential property, it functions as a continuous reservoir that pumps adult Culex into the surrounding residential sections throughout the warm-weather season. Homes that back directly to the golf course or are within 1 mile of the course perimeter are in the primary receiving zone for this breeding output.

Plantation's drainage infrastructure is centered on the South New River Canal system — part of the South Florida Water Management District's regional conveyance network that manages freshwater across central Broward County. The canal margins and backwater areas within the Jacaranda corridor provide additional Culex quinquefasciatus and Aedes aegypti breeding zones beyond the golf course system. Canal drainage also provides the connectivity that allows mosquito populations to move across the landscape — adult Culex travel up to 2 miles along canal corridors seeking hosts, and the SFWMD drainage connects Jacaranda to the regional mosquito pressure generated by the broader Plantation and south-central Broward landscape.

Jacaranda was developed primarily in the 1970s–1980s, giving its residential sections 50+ years of mature tropical landscaping. Established communities in South Florida present a different pest ecology than newer developments: mature canopy provides extensive shaded resting habitat for adult mosquitoes throughout the day, bromeliads and container ornamentals have had decades to populate the landscape and now provide ubiquitous Aedes aegypti container-breeding sites, and the dense established vegetation requires more thorough application coverage to achieve effective residual protection. Jacaranda residents in sections with significant landscape vegetation — particularly near the golf course perimeter — often experience the all-day bite exposure profile: daytime Aedes aegypti from containers plus evening/overnight Culex from the golf course water system.
